Fishing Trips - Port Mansfield, Texas
One of my favorite things to do is get with some good friends and do a fishing trip. Combined with the fishing (and the fishing
is usually damn good), we solve many of the world's problems, do a lot of trash talking, have some great meals, and (of course) imbibe
in some adult beverages. All in all, guy stuff.
So below are pictures and comments about a trip to Port Mansfield
in 2016. Click on the link to the left or at the bottom of this page for the Alaska fishing trips (a combination of two
trips to Alaska, one in 2015 and one in 2016 - both just fantastic experiences).
Port Mansfield
For the past 4 years or so we have gone red snapper fishing in June. In my opinion, red snapper is just about
the tastiest fish you can eat and can be served up in a variety of ways. I might put halibut in the same category and salmon
is not far behind (which explains the next section about fishing in Alaska). This all came to pass as result of a neighbor and
very close friend (Charlie Whidden) who feels the same way. Charlie organizes these trips, makes the reservations with the captain
& accommodations, gets the food and keeps everything in order (well, at least he tries to keep everything in order).
It usually works out just fine.
Heading out in the morning, got to get up early for the fish (plus it's a lot cooler). This is Captain Frank, Alan, Terry, Jim,
me, and Charlie. Not pictured is Chuck (taking the picture) and Frankie (driving the boat).
Chuck (missing in the first pic). One of our old tennis pals and a Texas Tech ex (which explains the guns up sign).
This was probably the smallest snapper of the two fishing days. Charlie with the fish and his son Jim behind.
We limited out both days. This is Frankie (son of the captain) who helped us keep our lines from being tangled and made sure
we all had bait to keep on our hooks. It takes a lot of work to keep the boat in working order.
Charlie and Jim back at the dock.
The motley crew heading back in.
Yep, I love my red snapper.
